BIOGRAPHYS of SINGERS


KARL EMANUEL
Musoke was born 1962 in Germany but raised in Uganda. His singing was trained at early ages in the churches choir and brought to perfection at his school days. At the age of 17 he came back to Germany. From the early 90s he is the leadsinger of Hamburg based Dub Division band. After several tours with bands like Di Irie’s, Natty Rebels a.o. he stays close to his roots and culture ambitions. We proudly present one of the very few recordings of this real outstanding singer.


LEROY GIBBON,
born in St Catherine JA in 1955 , is living in Canada. Touring stage
shows from the 70´s and working with labels like King Jammie Steely&Cleevie, Fashion a.o. in JA and the UK he is truly a “dancehall” singer: A unique voice, song-writing skills and a strong stage appearance meet a repertoire spanning from roots, classique over to lovers. On this exclusive track Mr. Gibbon sings for the children.


LANDBO BANKEN
born 1st of May 1969 in Hamburg Germany as Mattias Penselin. Better known as, Pensi´ he startet singing with the Di Iries Band in `92 and worked with Dub me Ruff, Alpha & Omega a.o. With his IRE Hi-Fi soundset he is among those who introduced soundsystem to the streets of Hamburg. Today he is working as an engineer and producer at 108studios. Hear him in a Lovers rock special.


GIDDEON ZINGER
alias Errol Bellot born 1963 in London. He started up winning a singing competition in´79, when he recieved a recording contract with the legendary S&G Records.In the ´80s he worked with labels like Unity, and Y&D and toured with JAH Tubby´s, King Original a.o. In the 90´s he recorded for Discotex, Studio 55 and Ire Hi-Fi .Beeing in the buisiness for more than 20 years he is one of UK´s top singers.


U-BROWN
was born under the name of Huford Brown in Kingston Jamaica in 1956.Inspirered through the legendary DJ U-Roy he works for King Tubbies Hometown Hi-Fi in the early 70´s. From the early days he recorded only for the best producers.In the end of the 70´s he follows the Jack Ruby Sound to the US, in´82 he is moving over to England. The name U-Brown stands for originality in style and fashion.


NATTY KING
was born in 1978 as Christopher Roberts in JA and lives countrysides in St. Thomas. Hitting the charts working with Steely & Cleevy from 2000 on, he released his first album produced by veteran Deejay TRINITY aka Wade Brammer. Trinity - born 1954 in JA - has been releasing his fine deejay style from´76 and was also singing as Jr.Brammer. Hear the two of them in combination for the very first time.


MIKE BROOKS
was born in Westmoreland JA in 1953. With his first band the Tots he recored an album for Lee Perry but soon started a solo career. From the mid ´70s Mike was singing and producing for his own Teems label. Many different artists have been released during this period. In the early ´80s Mike left JA for London where production continued. Here we give you one example of his fine and soulful vocal artistry.


LONE RANGER
was born in JA as Anthony Waldron in 1958. In the early `70s he first released his unique toasting style on Coxsons Studio One label. In the following he worked for top JA producers and Soul to Soul and Virgo Hi-Fi Sounds. Since´99 he is living in France touring with Soul Stereo a.o. Many times copied but never reached- too sharp in timing, too bad in rhyming - this is the original - the Lone Ranger.


LUCIANO
born 1963 as Jephter Washington McClymot in JA started singing at the markets with his guitar and later deejaying on soundsystems. Continous releases and tours around the world and not at last working with Fattis Burrell of Exterminator since ´92 have made him one of todays most popular reggae singers. Since ´98 he is playing with the JAH Messenger Band. On this track he shows both his vocal qualities - the singers and the deejays - in original Ire Hi-Fi mix.

GRACE NELSON released the LP “Kingston city” on the ´I´ Music label in ´89 and was related to soundsystems and studios such as Caveman in Kingston. A strong and upright rasta woman visited Hamburg in May ´97 to work in our studio. This track is one of the last recordings that she did before she got brutally murdered one year later at the age of only 39. Grace leaves behind three children.

Lincoln SUGAR MINOTT, born 1956 in Kingston JA, started with the African Brothers in 1970. From the mid ´70s he went his own ways working for Studio one and, from´78, his Blackroots and Youthpromotion labels. Sugar Minott is one of the most respected reggae artists not only because he has produced more than 60 albums but because he is a mentor and promotor for so many talented youth from the ghetto.

TONY TUFF was born under the name Winston Morris in Kingston JA in 1955. He was the lead singer of the African brothers from 1970 on. From´78 he was the lead singer for Soul Syndicate and started singing for Yabby You, Junjo Lawes a.o. He also recorded at Studio one and was working with Rootsman for Third eye music in 2003. A veteran in his own rights - on this track he is going back to his very roots.

JIMMY RILEY, born in Kingston JA in the year 1955, started his career with his band the Techniques back in the rocksteady era. After working for the Treasure Isle lable with the Sensations he produced hit after hit with the harmony group the Uniques. During the ´80s & ´90s he produced for Sly and Robbies Taxi label. Today he runs his own Love Promotion label. A voice second to none, he gives us pure upliftment.

LUTON FYAH aka Anthony Martin was born and raised in St Catherine JA. He made his first musical experience at his granddads soundsystem but stepped into music buisiness at Buju´s Gargamel studio in´99. Following his first releases he toured with JAH Mason and released his debut Album “Dem no know demself” in 2006.Looking on his talents -Luton was playing the premier football league for Constant spring- he IS playing in the first league of a new generation of conscious songwriters.

AJANI was born in 1976 as Kirk McDowell in Kingston JA. At the age of sixteen he met up with Ashanti Roy of the Congo’s and became the keyboarder of his Jahpower Band. He got his first international experience on tour with Ijahman Levi in ’93. In 2000 he migrated to Germany where he and drummer Granville Thomas founded the Shashamani Band. Deeply inspired by the late great Jackie Mittoo he plays this track as soulful.
